"Where Art and Engineering Collide"
People-powered vehicles traversing water, sand, mud and pavement in a quest for The Glory! A fun and wacky day of racing in mud, water and sand in wild and inventive, home-made contraptions.
This is a terrific, fun-filled, FREE family event featuring amazing people-powered works of art built to travel over an exciting all terrain course with challenges such as the harbor water launch, crossing sand mound and dazzling sand, a figure 8 race track, and a huge mud pit to make it to the finish line.
These spectacular Kinetic Sculpture vehicles can have over 100 gears; ingenious treading, flotation and propulsion; athletic pilots and mechanically advanced pit crews. The creatively engineered machines are transformed into moving, artful sculptures. Humorous rules with a variety of judging criteria determine each entry's score ... the first vehicle across the finish line is not necessarily the winner! This unique Kinetic Sculpture Race started over 30 years ago in Humboldt, California by Hobart Brown, the Glorious Founder. Races in Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Northern California draw thousands of people every year. The Kinetic Sculpture Race at Ventura Harbor is the only race of its kind in Southern California.
