Sandra Clermont and David Pu'u will display their art in a show at Fox Fine Jewelry from July 8 through September 6, 2010. Artists' Reception will be Saturday, July 10th, 6 - 9 pm.
Pu'u is making a rare hometown showing in his worldwide career. After twenty years in the surf industry, Pu'u left his corporate CEO position to be a photographer. He's done well: magazine covers, books, apparel brand artist, and museum shows from Brazil to New York City. Pu'u's breathtaking photography is often shot from the water: in jet skis, helicopters, airplanes and moving vehicles.
A unique duo, Clermont superbly paints Pu'u's photography. Other works by Clermont are of her own creative vision. Clermont, a native of Victoria, Australia, also lived on the tropical islands off the coast of New Guinea, inspiring her for years to come. Her art reflects her loves: surfing, traveling, and art.

Chuyia, a child bride whose husband dies before their union is consummated, is relegated to life in a widow's ashram. Their life is ruled over by the widow queen, a venal old woman who pimps the most attractive young widow. Kalyani, to wealthy Brahmin gentlemen, whose attention and monetary support are considered by this caste-influenced society to be a blessing. When Kalyani defies the laws of scripture and of man by attempting to leave the widow's house and marry a progressive young lawyer and devotee of Ghandi, she discoverts that ancient ways, however unjust, are not to be taken lightly.
SCREENING #4: Wednesday, September 1, 7pm: "TURTLES CAN FLY" - One of the most beautiful movies ever made about children caught in the crossfire of war. Set in the director's native Kurdistan, "Turtles Can Fly" is a magical story that takes place during the 2003 American invasion of Iraq. "Satellite" is the charismatic 13-year-old mastermind of an army of children who collect land mines for a living. A born leader, he installs a radio antenna so his fellow villagers in this region of Northern Iraq can hear of the impending fall of their mortal enemy, Saddam Hussein. When Satellite falls in love with "Agrin", an adolescent rape victim, he is disturbed by her brother "Hengov", who has been left armless retrieving a landmine and who can now seemingly predict the future.
SCREENING #5: October 6, 7pm: "JEAN MICHEL BASQUIAT THE RADIANT CHILD" (USA 2010 A film by Tamra Davis - 88mins). Director Tamra Davis pays homage t oher late friend in this definitive documentary that also delves into Basquiat as a highly determined iconoclast bent on fame. His dense, bebop-influenced neo-expressionist street graffiti emerged in the late 1970s when minimalist, conceptual art hit the mainstream. Basquiat's own words and work powerfully convey the mystique and allure of both the artist and the man. Featuring Andy Warhol, Julian Schnabel, and other key figures of the modern art world.
SCREENING #6: November 3, 7pm: ("F FOR FAKE" - FRANCE / IRAN / WEST GERMANY 1974 - a film by Orson Welles - 85 mins "F for Fake" remains a perfect legacy of the ideas of one of our greatest and most gifted cinema artists. Unconventional to say the least, Orson Welles' film is as much a meditation on the nature of art as it is fascinated by the inevitable charlatans who inhabit this world.
Special post-screening presentation by Ventura artist Michael Kelly of an illustrated excerpt from his upcoming book on the life and work of another great art forger of the 20th Century, Tom Keating.
SCREENING #7: December 1, 7pm: ("RIVERS AND TIDES - ANDY GOLDSWORTHY, WORKING WITH TIME" - Germany / Finland / UK / Canada 2001 - a film by Thomas Reidelsheimer - 91mins ) A mesmerizing and poetic look at the celebrated environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy, whose medium is nature itself and whose preferred studio is the outdoors. The soft-spoken, secluded Goldsworthy is seen making ephemeral sculptures out of bits of ice in trees and building tall, mysterious cones from loose rock which stand like spiritual sentinels in forests and on shorelines. An intoxicating study of the fragile relationship between man, art and nature.
